All the eggs a woman will ever carry form in her ovaries while she is a four-month-old fetus in the womb of her mother. This means our cellular life as an egg begins in the womb of our grandmother. Each of us spent five months in our grandmother's womb, and she, in turn, formed in the womb of her grandmother. We vibrate to the rhythm of our mother's blood before she herself is born, and this pulse is the thread of blood that runs all the way back through the grandmothers to the first mother.

Amy Hadererm, The Mandala Journey Birth
A mother is the truest friend we have; when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends, who rejoiced with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.

Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
Proverbs 31:31
My Mother's hands, so thin and work-worn,
   Were loved by me as jewels, rare,
   For they had rocked me in my cradle,
   And, lovingly, they'd stroked my hair.
They worked for me both night and morning;
   They helped to smooth away my fears,
   For never were these dear hands idle;
   I think of them with love and tears!
My Mother's hands to me were precious:
   I thought their beauty was sublime;
   I felt no harm on earth could touch me
   If they were near me all the time!
~Gertrude Tooley Buckingham, "My Mother's Hands," 1940s
But there's a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother's story because hers is where yours begin.
Mitch Albom
(I have known women in my life that never had children for a variety of reasons. Being a mom is only one of many ways that a female can reach her full potential. These same ladies make the best aunts, cousins, neighbors, daycare workers, nurses, teachers, coaches, crossing guards, bus drivers, scout leaders; you name it. They mentor and provide a positive role model for every child they come in contact with. They look out for everyone’s children, which makes them a special kind of mother. And we’re grateful for all they do.
There is no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.

(I need to start listening to country music more regularly. I’ve found many beautiful song stories, and this one is no exception. Jamie O’Neill is an Australian country singer who hits the mark with ‘Somebody’s Hero,’ which perfectly describes every good mom out there!)
And on a lighter note, I can’t forget my favorite TV mothers…
…these incredibly talented women who provided endless episodes of side-splitting laughter!
Moira Rose (Catherine O’Hara) - Schittscreek
Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter) - Arrested Development
Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith) - Downton Abby
Marie Barone (Doris Roberts) - Everybody Loves Raymond
Edith Bunker (Jean Stapleton) - All in the Family
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) - I Love Lucy
