The sea was the cradle of primordial life, from which the roots of our own existence sprouted. Billions of years of evolutionary development brought forth an enchanting variety of forms, colors, lifestyles, and patterns of behavior. ~ Werner Gruter, Writer
Billions of years. It’s still a concept that I struggle to grasp.
To think that the beginning of space and time, as we know them, began 13.8 billion years ago is hard to imagine.
As a kid, one year seemed like an eternity!
My grandparents looked ancient. Now that I’m a grandma (and still possessing the heart of a child), I don’t feel old at all. Despite logging 64 years, I don’t see myself the way I viewed my grandparents.
Oh, sure, my hair is gray, I need glasses, and I qualify for some senior discounts, but I don’t feel like I’ve been around all that long. (Maybe because I’ve forgotten so much?) 😳 🤣
As I’ve grown older, my perception of time has changed a lot.
These days, a long time equates to a couple of generations. However, my perceptions of our planet and its beauty haven’t changed. I’ve grown to better appreciate the environment and the amazing biosphere of which we are a part.
The ocean has always drawn me in a way I can’t explain.
The fact that my first vacations were to the beach may account for this attraction. Those were extremely happy memories. The fact that the ocean is so beautiful in its own unique way is probably another. And for those of us who believe our roots did indeed spring from the sea, it only makes sense that somewhere deep inside we would feel that primordial connection to the ocean.
These photos were taken during a visit to the Florida Aquarium in Tampa, FL. I hope you find these deep-sea creatures and marine plants as beautiful as I do!

I hope to live to see my 60s as I have grandparents who have lived past 100! It's a wonderful world that we live in and while I've also been drawn to the ocean I've also always been wary of it. It's beautiful and incredible, but also dangerous.
I may be in Florida in October so I’ll have to see if I can visit the aquarium. My Uncle is in Tampa but my Mum lives in north Florida!
