Who am I?
As the years pass, we increasingly ask ourselves this question. Unfortunately, the answer doesn’t always come easily.
We’re born like a pristine canvas, unspoiled and ready to be shaped by the people and world around us. But because our lives are made up of both positive and negative experiences, we often endure all sorts of problems: abuse, neglect, illness, accidents, financial setbacks, loss, and grief. These challenges impact who we are at the various stages of our lives.
I suffered as a codependent personality for decades, making poor choices that influenced my life in negative ways. This behavior began in adolescence and continued for almost 40 years.
Finally, after learning that self-reflection was the key to recovery, I began scrutinizing myself and my past. This meant examining the different stages of my life and the people I surrounded myself with. It was a painful process and took years, but I learned how to set boundaries and found the self-worth that had long been missing.
We each have unique stories of suffering, joy, and plenty of in-between stuff.
I tell my stories to provide emotional support and affirmation to others suffering from low self-esteem and people-pleasing behaviors.
I write anonymously because the narratives are personal and intimate.
