Even though it may have been difficult I’m glad your daughter had the courage to set those boundaries and appreciate you. There are too many children who grow up to resent the parent who stayed and yearn for the ones that didn’t. They spend their entire lives looking for them in other people so they can have a second chance. Thank you for sharing.
Yes, some family members told my daughter she should respect him because he was her father. This is the wrong message. Respect must be earned even when it involves an elder. She taught me a lot about boundaries. Thank you for this important insight.
I feel like that sentiment is common in a lot of families and communities. It’s infuriating how the neglected (and sometimes even abused) children are expected to just forgive and forget their elders but there’s little expectation for their elders to do better by them.
Hi, What a powerful post you have written. Parents play such an important role in their children's lives, and so many parents don't get it. Your children are lucky they had you - it must have been quite the challenge.
Thank you, Janice. I left the pain behind to learn and grow into a new and better life. The reading and research I do with this newsletter help educate me and hopefully others, as well!

Absolutely 💯
That's such a sad account. But what a wise, strong mum and what an accepting and loving child.
Thank you. ☺️

Hi, I know what you mean about the reading and research - those are my goals as well.
