I can't abide Halloween. It's never been a thing in Australia until lately when retailers started pushing the US idea. The marketing was aimed at kids and look what happened! Besides it does rather lose the scary feel when we're in daylight saving - so it's still bright and light when the kids go trick or treating.
Because we have our 6 year old grandson staying for a couple of days, I have cookies decorated with eyeballs, bats and pumpkins, but that's as far as it goes. He would rather we went mountain biking or beachcombing because its light until past his bedtime.
Yes, the US is BIG on consumerism. It’s ruined our society in many ways, I feel. 😔
When I was a kid ‘trick or treating’ hours were 6 - 8 pm. It was just getting dark when we started our journey through the surrounding neighborhoods. Fast forward and today the hours are 4 - 6. They changed it for better visibility of the little ones by motor vehicles. Most kids today have parents that accompany them, but those of the 60s and 70s did not. It’s a different world for sure.
Good stuff! I'm a bit late to the halloween party though:(
Hahaha..."better late than never" is my motto! Of course, that particular party IS over! 🤣
Thanks so much for the restack, Dana!
Love this!!! Fun post! I don't like Halloween but this made it interesting!! Nice work!
Thanks, Patti...I'm glad even a 'non-Halloweeny' type enjoyed it!
I did!!

I love this roundup! I would say reading this was the highlight of my day (who would've known a state would ban silly string?)
