"Donut ever give up on your dreams, especially if they involve sprinkles."
Today is National Doughnut Day, and sweet lovers are rejoicing in the moment!
Sadly, I didn’t know ahead of time and am now 17.5 hours into a 36-hour fast (Boo!) I love anything that involves cake (including cake doughnuts) and will have to delay my gratification until tomorrow.
I’ve recently gained about five pounds (on top of the excess that I’m already carrying around), so it’s time to get serious! Fasting is a better option for me, rather than a daily diet that restricts my favorite foods (including cake!)
It’s more like binge-starvation. Once it ends, you’re advised to eat healthy, limit portion size, and enjoy a treat, all of which I can do. So, my treat tomorrow will be a doughnut!
Here are some interesting numbers regarding these delicious round goodies:1
10 billion – The number of donuts made in the U.S. each year.
10 – The number of people in America with ‘Donut’ as their surname. (Wow!)
13 – The number of people who have ‘Donut’ as their first name. (It never occurred to me when naming my kids…darn!)
2480 – The city of Boston has one donut shop for every 2,480 people.
20 – The number of donuts Renée Zellweger ate every day to gain weight for the sequel of “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” (I could totally do this!)
9 – The Guinness World Record for the most powdered donuts eaten in three minutes. (Not sure I could do this.)
201.02 million – The number of donuts consumed by Americans in 2020.
100,000 – The number of donuts churned out by Entenmann’s every hour. 😳
3,660 – The number of donuts it will take to reach the top of the Statue of Liberty. (I’d never make it up THAT ladder, just sayin’.)
55 million – The number of donuts it would take to get from Long Beach, California, to Long Island, New York. (Follow my crumbs…)
While I truly wish I could lose about 25 pounds, I’m finding that food is a great source of pleasure as I age.
Years ago, when I'd pick up my kids from their grandparents’ house, I’d roll my eyes as my mom recounted everything that she and my dad had eaten that day.
“What’s the obsession with food?” I’d wonder (in my 130-pound body).
I don’t have the answer, but I eat a healthier, varied diet, and everything tastes good! I don’t feel that I overdo the sweets, but carbs come in many forms (did I mention that I LOVE bread and pasta?) Plus, menopause has a way of slowing down the metabolism, making it almost seem as though it's moving backward.
Not to mention, my physical activity has also slowed down (a deadly combination, to say the least!)
Anyway, go grab a doughnut (or two) and celebrate the day! 🍩 🍩 🍩
I’ll join you…tomorrow! 😉

I love chocolate-glazed doughnuts…what’s your favorite?

I do love a good doughnut! I say enjoy the food. These days I exercise more so I can eat more. 😘🫶🏻
Honey Dip is my fave. Although I don’t eat doughnuts often because I’ll eat more than one. Even being a salty person, doughnuts are just that special treat.
